Do I love a good capsule wardrobe! Every season, I go through my favorite outfits on Pinterest, and I use that to pull together my shopping list for the next few months. I look for things that appear again and again—those are the items that I know will make up the backbone of my wardrobe. I thought I’d share my summer capsule wardrobe with you, and if you’re interested in making your own, I offer personal style coaching to help you out with that! For now, have a gander and maybe you’ll see something that inspires you!

As soon as the weather gets warm, I can’t wait to peel off my skinny jeans and slip into a pair of shorts. This year, I’m loving cutoffs—the more rips, the better. (Okay, within reason!) Petite ladies: make sure you get a high-waisted pair. This will give you crazy long legs!

I’m also crazy about platforms. I’m so happy they’re back in style! Platforms are awesome because they give you major height without being excruciatingly uncomfortable. While I wouldn’t go hiking in ’em, they do hold up well for lots of walking.

Or rattan/bamboo/some kinda plant. I’ve been seeing these more and more, and I have to say that I love this departure from your run-of-the-mill totes and cross bodies for summer! If you’re on the short side, make sure to get one in a smaller size so it doesn’t overwhelm your frame. (Another plus: the smaller ones are a lot cheaper!)

Remember, the more skin that’s showing, the taller you’ll appear. While I’m not a fan of the cold shoulder trend, I do really love cutouts around the midriff. They’re so sexy without revealing too much!

Any type will do—floppy hats, boaters, and fedoras are all welcome here. Personally, I love me a good boater! Check out this post for some major style inspiration and add a boater to your summer capsule wardrobe!

White tees and tops always show up in my capsule wardrobes. Is there anything they don’t go with? Knot one at the waist and pair it with a midi skirt, or tuck the front into your shorts. The best part is that white tees are so easy to dress up or down, so get creative with your accessories!

I know I say this over and over, but nude footwear is awesome for petites because it creates an illusion of longer legs. If you only buy one pair, though, I’d recommend nude slides. They’re so versatile! (By the way, I tried to select shoes that come in a range of skin tones. If you are a woman of color, please feel free to make recommendations and I will add them to this post!)

In the spring, I love dreamy, feminine midi skirts—think A-line tulle and satin ones. For summer, though, I much prefer regular ol’ cotton and linen. They’re so cool, so casual, and (best of all) they’ll save your thighs from hot plastic seats.

We all have those workhorse tops that you wear under too-low tops at work, but the camis and tanks I’m talking about here are standalone pieces. Spring for ones that have cute details, like buttons or scallops. Like many of the things on this list, cute they can be dressed up or down, so have fun with them!

So that’s it—my summer capsule wardrobe! Let me know what you’ll be wearing all season long!
